Hey There!Sake Nomi Display Sign

It's a bit unusual for us to send out a Monday message, but we have some events featuring some special guests and extra tasty sake happening this week, and we want to make sure to give you time to work a visit to Sake Nomi into your schedule, if you're interested.

Here's a quick rundown:

Tuesday, July 23: Sake & yakitori with Texas Sake Co. & Umami Kushi
The pioneering Texas Sake Company is very much in the news, and this tasting will be their first foray into a market outside the Lone Star State.  Upping the ante on this flavorful bonanza, Chef Harold of Umami Kushi will be joining us to do that delicious kushiyaki thing he does.

Also, the new week's menu theme is "Desert Island Sake," allowing us to present some favorite sake, from a wide range of grades and flavor profiles, we think are pretty indispensable.

Wednesday, July 24:  Wii Wednesday
But, of course.

Thursday, July 25: Sake Nomi Cinema presents,
Samurai Rebellion (1967)
Samurai Rebellion Please join us for the SN Cinema debut of director Masaki Kobayashi's game-changing classic, Samurai Rebellion.  Why a game-changer?  Because, as Japanese film critic Donald Richie wrote, "In Samurai Rebellion, Kobayashi took his study of the individual against society as far as he could, and enriched it by refusing to restrict himself to the manly world of sword fights. By focusing on family, and particularly on women in family roles, he widened his subject and heightened its emotional potential."  Samurai Rebellion is a new discovery for us, and we can't wait to share it with you!

Fri.- Sat., July 26- 27: Desert Island/New Namazake Sake Tasting, featuring Box Nature Sushi (Friday only)
Friday and Saturday, we'll be pouring some of our favorites, and Tsukasa Reika we're hoping to include the newest batch of summer "seasonal release" unpasteurized namazake.  Featured sake will include some Otokoyama (Man's Mountain) in a can, and a dry (SMV: +7) nama from Tsukasabotan, of which only 1500 bottles were produced.  Don't miss it!

Sun.- Tues., July 28-30: CLOSED
Bow tie Gillie Please excuse us for a couple days, as we go on our first family vacation (albeit a brief one) since opening the shop.  We're hoping to come back revitalized and re-focused on continuing to present Seattle's finest selection of premium Japanese sake and microbrewed beer.

Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you at the shop soon.

It's already "Hump Day," and it feels like it's been a pretty eventful week for us thus far.

Monday, we were at the shop to host Chef Amadeus and guest on his podcast, The Southern Passion Lounge.  If you're curious, take a listen -- we join the show at about the 16:15 mark.

Of course, as it's Wednesday, there will be Wii this evening, and you're cordially invited to stop by, create your own funky avatar, and totally dominate Johnnie at your chosen game.

We've got a bunch of fun events/tastings planned for the next couple weeks, and we'll briefly outline some of them below.

Thanks for reading, and we hope to catch up with you down at the shop real soon.

Having the holiday (Happy Birthday, USA!) mid-week, makes the week feel shortened, but we've still got a few things going on at the shop, so if you're sticking around town, we hope you'll drop in an join us.  The schedule looks something like this:

July 2 (Tues.):  New week, New menu
If it's Tuesday, that means we've changed things up on the glass pour menu, and this time 'round it means some selections we think are particularly pleasant in the warm weather.  As we snarkily mentioned last week via our Facebook page, for the duration of the summer, and well into Sept.- Oct., we will continue to serve only chilled sake (and cold Japanese microbrew beers).

July 3 (Wed.): Wii Wednesday
There's a Sounders game, as well, and we hope to be celebrating another Sounders victory, post-match.  'Good opportunity for you to grab a bottle for your holiday barbecue, too!

July 4 (Thurs.): Independence Day
MC5 Live We will be CLOSED to observe this holiday with family and friends, and premium sake, of course.  We hope you and yours will have a rockin' good time, too.

July 5 (Fri.): Post-holiday TGIF

As if you needed an excuse to drink delicious premium sake!  We'll be open our normal hours, 2 pm- ????  Gotta believe that we'll be showing Team America: World Police at some point in the evening (8-ish?), just because, as Taiko says, "GBA," God Bless America!

July 6 (Sat.): Live Irish music & sake session, with food by Box Nature Sushi (food from 6 pm, music from 8 pm)
The music will be Irish, but the food and drinks will be of the Irish Fiddle Japanese variety.  Kind of a precursory celebration for Johnnie's birthday (but mostly because Taiko loves the music sooo much), we expect this one might last into the wee hours of Sunday morning.

July 7 (Sun.): Sake Sunday School & Customer Appreciation
Louis Jordan We're always trying to evangelize about drinking the good stuff, and Sunday's a perfectly mellow day to drink and discuss.  The customer appreciation thing is the 4.8% discount you'll receive if you can lend Johnnie any tips on how to grow old more gracefully (he officially become a year wiser on Monday, July 8, and is proud to share his birthday with Louis Jordan and Kevin Bacon).

As ever, thanks for reading, and much more thanks for your continued support and friendship!
