'S Up, Sake Sippers?Sake Nomi Display Sign

As we wind down the month of May, we wanted to remind you:

A) We've got some fun things going on at the shop over the next few days (but, we feel like that's usually the case).

B) We are fast approaching our 6th anniversary, and we'd be honored if you can make plans to spend some quality time with us during the weekend of June 28-30 (details to follow, of course, so please stay tuned).

Masumi Arabashiri C) The distributor has informed us that the availability of the insanely delicious seasonal release namazake, Masumi Arabashiri, continues to look good, and we plan on sharing it with sake fans at the bar until the supply runs dry.  We will be receiving our next batch this coming Tuesday, and if you'd like to reserve a bottle (or 3 or 4), just give us a shout by Sunday (6/2) night.  ($48/720 ml bottle, 10% discount on orders of 6 or more)

Thanks for hanging with us through these first six years, and we hope to share a glass and some laughs with you soon!

As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, here's a reminder of some things that will be happening at Sak Nomi in the coming days.

Please note that since we're closed on most Mondays, we'll be sticking to that schedule, and will be open our normal hours this Saturday (2- 10 pm) and Sunday (Noon- 6 pm).

We hope you'll be able to spend some quality time with family and friends this weekend and during the approaching summer season, and we hope you'll make some of our delicious premium Japanese sake part of your plans.

Thanks so much for your continued patronage, encouragement, and readership, and we hope to see you down at the shop again soon!

Greetings, Nomidachi!Sake Nomi Display Sign

It's about time we put together a full-blown newsletter, and while it's forthcoming, here are few things we have going on at the shop in the next few days:

Sak Nomi International Film Festival:   That's right: SNIFF.  Running concurrent with the Seattle International Film Festival (May 16- June 9) we'll be showing some new and old favorites for your sake-drinking pleasure over the next couple weeks.

By the way, your suggestions/requests are welcome, and should be sent to info@sakenomi, with the subject heading "SNIFF."

Doing Time Featuring predominantly Japan-related stories (so we can get the obligatory sake-drinking and back scrubbing scenes in!), we'll kick things off this Friday, May 17 at 8 pm with the 2002 comedy, Doing Time.  Directed by acclaimed director Yoichi Sai (Blood and Bones, Quill), and starring Tsutomu Yamazaki (Tampopo, Departures), the story is based on the manga by Kazuichi Hanawa, and depicts his experience in a minimum security prison in Hokkaido.  This film is admittedly lacking in sake-drinking and back scrubbing (thank goodness!), but we can probably make up for that at the bar . . .

Come early, grab a good seat and a couple premium beverages, and settle in for a prison movie of a decidedly different kind.

(Encore screening: Sunday, May 19 @ 4 pm)

Box Nature Sushi Saturday, May 18: Box Nature Sushi from 6 pm.  Usually a weekly Friday occurrence for us, we're teaming up with Chef Taka this Saturday for what Louis Jordan might call a "Saturday Night Fish Fry."  Since it's sushi, there won't be so much frying involved, but you get the picture.

All weekend (Fri. thru Sun.): Premium sake tasting (& drinking), but of course!  This week, we're featuring some fantastic unpasteurized seasonal-release namazake, as well as a luxurious, unfiltered (not charcoal filtered, that is) junmai daiginjo, and a rare tokubetsu ("special") honjozo.  We've managed to make some room in the fridge for some "off menu" goodies, too, so don't be afraid to ask (you'll be glad you did).

Thanks for reading, for your continued support and encouragement, and for your terrific referrals to family and friends.  We hope to see you again soon!

With the chaos (Seattle-style) of May Day behind us, we persevere in our continued protest against "bad sake," and we hope you'll join the movement!

Here are a few things on the docket in the coming days:

Today, Thursday, May 2: 1st Thursday ArtWalk.  It should be terrific weather for browsing the Pioneer Square galleries, and don't forget to stop by and avail yourself of the opportunity to appreciate the art and craftsmanship of premium sake.

Box Nature Sushi Friday, May 3: Box Nature Sushi from 6 pm.  Chef Taka is helping to make Fridays TGIS(ushi).  There's usually a movie involved at some point, too, so if you're looking for a reasonably inexpensive date night, we won't tell.

All weekend (Fri. thru Sun.): Continued seasonal namazake tasting featuring Masumi Arabashiri ("First Run"), and the last few glasses of Seikyo "Omachi" Namazake.

Sunday, May 5:  We call it "Sake Sunday School," and it's a Linda Blair nice, mellow day to drink and learn about sake, if you're so inclined.  Exorcisms of previous "bad sake" experiences performed free of charge throughout the day. (Noon- 6pm)

Next Week:

In honor of Seattle Beer Week, and as a supplement to our sake selections, we'll be unveiling some new Japanese microbrews you might have a hard time finding anywhere else.

Thursday, May 9:
"Sake Japanese" from 7 pm.  This 2-hour class will teach you to at least drink fluently.  Or fluidly.  Or something.  At any rate, we'll put a focus on pronunciation and deciphering the pretty labels, and pour a ton o' sake for your consideration.  $50 (plus tax)/person includes all class materials and drinks.  Please RSVP by Tuesday, May 7.

Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you soon!
